X has expanded Under the Hood, its account-level report on post reach, to show when visibility was limited to comply with local laws. For brands and creators who suspect a shadowban, it adds one more place to look before guessing.
What Under the Hood already did
X launched Under the Hood in August alongside an update that explained more about how its source code works. The report gave users a simple view of penalties or restrictions applied to their posts or accounts, including labels added over the previous month.
What’s new: legal withholding by country
X says it widened the feature after users responded well to more transparency around government-required content filtering. Under the Hood now shows whether your account or posts had their visibility limited because of required compliance with local law. If a post was withheld in a country after a legal demand, you’ll see that it happened and which country it was.
Eligibility
The data is available to accounts that are at least one year old and have posted more than 10 times in the previous month.
Why it matters for marketers
When reach on X drops suddenly, Under the Hood should be the first stop. It tells you whether a label was applied or a post was withheld in a specific market, which saves time otherwise spent second-guessing the algorithm. Brands that use a single account to reach several countries can also see whether regional rules, not creative, are behind uneven results.
It is especially useful for accounts in X’s creator monetization program, where reach is income. If a creator partner’s campaign underdelivers, checking this report together is a reasonable first step.
