Edits is getting a paid tier
Meta’s video editing app Edits is getting a paid subscription called Edits Plus. According to a slide in Meta’s business subscription announcement, Edits Plus will be available as part of Meta One for Business packages or as a separate subscription.
The paid package will include more storage for video projects and expanded access to Meta’s AI tools, so heavy users can keep building projects without hitting limits. Meta hasn’t shared pricing or usage thresholds yet.
A long-signaled move
Built to rival CapCut
Meta has been adding Edits features roughly every other week to build a credible competitor to ByteDance’s CapCut — including folder management and image-to-video. At the same time, Meta warned from launch that it would eventually charge for add-ons, particularly AI-powered ones.
Mosseri’s explanation
Instagram chief Adam Mosseri explained the reasoning in a July Q&A on Instagram Stories: “Basically, these AI models are very expensive to run, and so we try to just offer them for free, but we have a cap on how many times you can use them per day. Eventually, you’re going to be able to subscribe to be able to get access to more, we’re working on that right now.”
What creators and brands should check
The model is taking shape: free AI editing with daily caps, and paid access above them. Brands and agencies producing a lot of short-form video should review:
- Which Edits AI features you rely on and how often you hit daily caps.
- Whether project storage is a real bottleneck or solvable with external storage.
- Whether to buy through a Meta One for Business bundle or Edits Plus alone — if you don’t need insights or scheduling, a standalone plan may be better value.
Once pricing is public, compare it against CapCut’s paid plans and the production time you’d save. It’s also a sign of how Meta is layering subscriptions across its apps, one tier at a time.
