X has refreshed its video upload and posting flow again. The updated X video composer offers a more focused layout and editable captions that can be refined with Grok, the platform’s AI assistant. X developer Allegra Jacchia described the new editor as cleaner, more intuitive and much easier to use.
What changed
Captions are the core of the update. Creators can edit captions manually in the composer or ask Grok to correct them. Grok can also translate captions into another language.
A steady run of video updates
In July, X shipped a major editor update with multi-language caption tools and green screen recording. It added video overlays in August and recently expanded livestream hosting options. The new composer continues that push.
Why native editing tools
Like other platforms, X wants more original creators. Built-in editing makes it easier to produce native content instead of reposting clips edited in other apps. Video engagement on X has risen steadily in recent years, though the company appears to have dropped the “video-first” tagline it tried in 2024.
How brands can use it
- Captions carry the message in sound-off feeds. Do not rely on auto captions; check product names and proper nouns.
- For international audiences, Grok translation can speed up multi-language captions, but have a person review brand terminology.
- Edit natively in X rather than reposting assets from other channels to improve originality.
What this means for marketers
This is a small update, but the direction is clear: X is using native tools to grow original video. Caption quality affects retention and brand trust, so add it to your pre-publish checklist.
