Why You Keep Rewriting What AI Drafted — the Roles Overlap, Not the Sentences
AI drafts feel hollow because structure was never designed, not because material was missing. How to split roles with MECE and record why you edited.

As AI usage spreads, interest in GEO has grown faster than the vocabulary has settled. The distinctions:
That leaves two things to actually manage: SEO and GEO. Some people use AEO to mean "AI engine optimization" — in that usage, AEO and GEO are the same thing.
GPT, Gemini and Perplexity each run their own web search infrastructure rather than calling Google or Naver APIs. Their results, however, correlate strongly with what ranks on conventional search. Gemini especially: it is Google's model, so ranking well in Google Search raises the odds of being cited.
Technically, then, a site with technical SEO in place already has the foundation for GEO. If a vendor offers "GEO only," that is worth questioning. Without SEO underneath, GEO does not hold.
Technical SEO covers HTML meta tags, OG images, robots.txt and sitemaps. Without it, search engines cannot properly read the page no matter how good the writing is.
The most commonly missing piece is a dynamic sitemap. A sitemap generated once and left alone never includes new posts, and since crawlers work from the sitemap, new content goes undiscovered. The check is simple: request yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, publish a new post, then request it again 5–10 minutes later and see whether the URL list updated.
Content SEO is measured by time on page, bounce rate and scroll depth. No amount of technical configuration produces those; the writing does. This is why the same tool and the same prompt yield very different results in different hands. AI is a complement, not a replacement — output quality still depends on someone who can write. Before starting an SEO program, confirm the marketer running it can actually write.
Three surface differences: the destination (a results page versus the body of an LLM answer), the input style (keyword queries like "MVP development cost" versus natural questions like "roughly how much does MVP development cost?"), and the engine itself. But GEO's priority is still to layer citation-friendly structure on top of an SEO foundation. For a blog, the two are nearly the same job.
The fastest method is to ask GPT, Perplexity and Gemini your article's core question and inspect the source links. Then monitor analytics for referral sources like chat.openai.com and perplexity.ai. GEO analytics tools such as Profound and Otterly.AI also exist.
Publishing the same article on Medium and your own blog carries no penalty as long as the canonical is set correctly. If your blog is the original, put its URL in Medium's Canonical Link field under Advanced Settings.

Google has said AEO (answer engine optimization) is no different from SEO. When people use AEO to mean "AI engine optimization," they mean GEO. In practice there are two disciplines: SEO and GEO.
Request yourdomain.com/sitemap.xml, publish a new post, and request it again 5–10 minutes later. If the URL list has not changed, the sitemap is static.
Ask GPT, Perplexity and Gemini your article's core question and check the source links, and monitor analytics for referrals from chat.openai.com, perplexity.ai and similar. GEO analytics tools like Profound and Otterly.AI can also track it.

Open-weight models are not automatically cheaper or worse. Here is the dividing line for which tasks to move, and a one-week test that tells you whether the move was worth it.

When an MVP takes a weekend, patents and copyright stop working as shields. What fills the gap where technical barriers used to be is capital, not creativity.
