A creator’s face on top of the broadcast
YouTube is expanding its test of Watch With, which lets creators share live commentary and reactions alongside livestreams. First announced in 2024 as a complement to YouTube’s NFL coverage, it has gradually reached more creators. Here’s how YouTube live reactions work:
- Creators in the experiment see a “React live” button in the Share panel when viewing eligible streams on mobile.
- Tapping it broadcasts their own reaction alongside the original content.
- The phone camera locks into horizontal orientation, and the camera can’t be turned off during the reaction.
- Viewers on any device see the creator’s camera and the source video combined as a vertical stream.
How revenue and metrics are shared
Creators earn revenue normally from reactions posted through Watch With, and viewing metrics are shared with the original broadcaster in the app. Rights holders gain new audiences through reacting creators, while creators get to ride major live events.
Why YouTube is investing in live
YouTube keeps adding live features: leaderboards that gamify engagement, Stations that let channels run 24/7 streams and expanded access to livestream gifts. In September 2025, YouTube said more than 30% of daily logged-in viewers watched live content on average. Live drives both viewer engagement and creator community growth.
What brands and rights holders should consider
A new way to extend event broadcasts
Rights holders can extend reach through reacting creators; fans want to watch with the creators they love as much as they want the game. Sponsors can think about visibility within reaction streams, not only the original broadcast.
A new creator collaboration format
If a brand hosts a live event — a product launch or showcase — creators reacting live can spread it across multiple communities. The feature is still limited to experiment participants and eligible streams, so confirm availability before planning. Alongside YouTube giving every creator a 24/7 Station and YouTube’s culture report on participation, it shows the live ecosystem YouTube is building.
