TikTok has named its first TikTok BookTok European Bestseller of the Year for 2026, based on in-app discussion and in-store sales, with research conducted by Media Control. The inaugural honor went to Rebecca Yarros’s novel “Fourth Wing.”
What the European BookTok bestseller list shows
Chloe Walsh landed two books on the list, “Binding 13” and “Saving 6,” alongside Rachel Reid’s “Heated Rivalry” and Elle Kennedy’s “The Mistake.” The list underlines the BookTok community’s strong pull toward commercial fiction.
TikTok said the platform drove 50 million book sales in the EU in 2025.
New Qualtrics data on reading and buying
TikTok also released a global survey conducted by Qualtrics among more than 5,000 TikTok users:
- 4 in 5 readers aged 16 to 39 on TikTok said they have become more interested in reading over the past few years.
- Users said TikTok helped them discover new book genres.
- 49% of BookTokers said TikTok inspired them to buy a book or audiobook.
What marketers should take from it
Discovery happens in communities, not search bars
BookTok works because readers recommend books to other readers. That is why TikTok’s ranking blends conversation volume with sales. The same dynamic is reshaping commerce elsewhere, as covered in Shoppers Follow People, Not Search.
It’s bigger than books
TikTok users actively seek recommendations for music, movies and other creative works. For publishing, entertainment and other taste-driven categories, mapping genre hashtags and designing moments worth talking about can outperform interruptive ads.
Measure conversation alongside sales
If TikTok ranks titles by discussion plus sales, community marketing should be measured the same way. Views alone won’t tell you whether real recommendations are spreading.
