Facebook’s Two-Link-Posts-Per-Month Test Changes the Playbook for Pages

Facebook’s Two-Link-Posts-Per-Month Test Changes the Playbook for Pages

Some professional accounts are seeing a limit of two Facebook Page link posts per month unless they subscribe to Meta One. Meta began testing this restriction with selected Pages in December 2025, and reports from Page managers suggest the experiment has expanded alongside the launch of Meta One for Business.

Link publishing may become a subscription benefit

Meta One for Business includes a tier-dependent allowance for adding links to Instagram posts and Reels. Facebook post links are not yet listed in the published benefit set, but Page managers have shared prompts saying non-subscribers can publish only two link posts per month. Meta previously described the test as a way to learn whether a higher link-posting volume adds value for paying users.

Meta has also said publisher Pages are exempt so that news and content continue to flow into Facebook. The restriction should therefore not be treated as a finalized, universal rule. It is nevertheless a warning for other brands and professional accounts not to assume that unlimited outbound distribution will remain a free platform capability.

External links already receive little exposure

Meta’s Widely Viewed Content report for the first quarter of 2026 said 98.7% of Facebook post views in the United States did not contain a link to an outside source. The share of viewed content with a link fell from 9.8% in 2022, when Meta began reporting the measure, to 1.3%. A posting limit may create a new cost, but the data also shows that link-dependent organic strategies were already operating with weak distribution.

The contrast with Facebook’s move to reduce login to a single tap is instructive: friction is reduced for actions inside the ecosystem while outbound paths receive tighter treatment. Brands should use Facebook as a place where the message can stand on its own, not only as a referral pipe.

An operating checklist for Pages

First, verify whether the prompt actually appears on each managed Page and document the account-level rules. Reserve link posts for moments with clear value, such as launches, deadlines or purchases. Use native video, images and text for stories that can be completed on-platform, and maintain alternative routes through profile links, search and retargeting. A Meta One subscription should be judged by the conversion value of each additional link—not by posting volume alone.
