LinkedIn has shared new guidance on B2B buying behavior based on a Factors.ai report analyzing more than 50,000 closed deals from 850 B2B organizations. The short version: start earlier, reach wider and pair paid with organic.
Buyers move 124 days before sales does
B2B buying groups explore possible solutions around 124 days before they speak to a seller. If you concentrate spend near the decision, the shortlist may already be set. The report recommends longer lead-in campaigns to capture early discovery.
Buying committees matter
Larger groups shape B2B contract decisions. Per LinkedIn, citing Factors.ai:
- Reaching 6 or more contacts before a deal is created in your CRM lifts win rates by 17 percentage points.
- Engaging 3 or more additional contacts during the active cycle lifts win rates by 16 points.
Yet 76% of LinkedIn ad spend targets director-level roles, which can miss the broader set of people influencing the deal.
Paid plus organic wins 2.4x more
Companies that run LinkedIn Ads alongside organic LinkedIn activity achieve 2.4x higher win rates than those running paid campaigns alone.
A LinkedIn B2B checklist
- Extend campaign timelines to cover a four-month-plus research window with always-on awareness content.
- Broaden job role targeting beyond directors to practitioners, managers, finance and IT stakeholders.
- Track pre-opportunity reach — how many contacts per target account you've engaged before a deal opens.
- Run organic in parallel with company page, executive and employee posts on the same themes as your ads.
